Superintelligence thesis

We are exploring a new thesis: that artificial intelligence driven investment decisions will prioritize space infrastructure development to avoid resource conflict on Earth and maximize long-term development.

Total electricity production on Earth grew a million-fold from first industrial application to mid-twentieth century. Since then, it has only grown 20×. On an exponential basis, there is not much more growth to be had on Earth.

AI’s power consumption is on a fast exponential trajectory, with no end in sight. We expect that as AI achieves general intelligence, and then superintelligence, it will create incredible economic value by mastering industrial productivity.

We also believe that it will be better at long term planning than humans, and take steps to avoid resource conflict by seeding exponential growth of power and compute outside Earth’s biosphere as soon as possible.

Informed estimates are that superintelligence may arrive around the same time as the first Starship-class Moon landings. These will open the possibility to bootstrap exponential growth by manufacturing solar panels on the Moon. The more solar panels manufactured, the faster further energy growth proceeds. Data centers on the Moon and beyond offer exponential growth without terrestrial resource conflict.

The Moon is an ideal location for compute, with a surface made largely from silicon and always-on solar energy and cooling near the poles. Terawatts of power and cooling are available in the polar regions, including quantum compute in the cryogenically cold permanently shadowed craters. Scaling to the entire Moon, petawatts of compute are possible.

The key to developing the Moon is getting an early start on exponential growth. Transportation to and from Earth will always be bottlenecked by high gravity and environmental constraints. A self-sustaining energy and resource base beyond Earth will face no such constraints.

Frontier AI leaders are already talking about Dyson swarm and space colonization. We see an opportunity to architect an open platform where the benefits of exponential growth are widely available and safely managed.

We think this is the best path toward safely initiating exponential growth. If you’re thinking about transitioning to a Type II civilization, we’d love to talk.
